Problems in cool season grasses
Bentgrass
- Very
susceptible to disease, heat stress, drought, and compaction.
- Diseases
include: dollar spot, Pythium, brown patch, and snow mold
-These can be taken care of by having a good spray program and fertilize
regularly.
- Heat
Stress is a problem during the warm
months of Summer.
-frequent irrigation (syringing) is a must.
- Drought
is a big problem when no rain is
available for the grass to take up.
-not much you can do, but irrigate a lot.
Bluegrass, Ryegrass, and Fescue
- These
grasses
have about the same problems, when it comes to undesirable turf.
- There are many species
of weeds associated with these grass species, and they are both common in
home lawns and the rough of golf courses.
- Grassy Weeds.
- Broadleaf Weeds.
- Diseases
- Snow Mold
- Dollar Spots
- Brown Patch
- Fairy Ring etc…
- Kentucky Bluegrass will, in the midst of excessive
heat and drought, will turn to a less desirable color. (From Dark Green
to a yellowish and wilting look).
