Most inexensive way to establish a lawn, or grassy
area such as the rough on a golf course
Depending on grass species, can be quick to establish
-ryegrass is the quickest to establish.
When selecting a seed to put down consider these factors:
- type of seed (species and cultivar)
- where is the seed going to be planted?
- is there shade in the area, if so you may want a shady mix seed.
- what is the area going to be used for? (golf course, front yard, football
field, etc...)
- is there irrigation available?
Be prepared to maintain the seed as it germinates
into a lush turf.
Make sure you are sure of the seeding rates for the
particular seed.
Weeds can easily germinate when grass seed is planted
- this is because there is weed seed in every bag of grass seed.
Sod establishment
Can be very expensive.
Very fast to establish (It's there as soon as you
put it down)
Used for quick fixes on golf courses due to turf injury
in certain places
-Maintain a nursery of all your grasses on your golf course so you can always
have sod.
Must be irrigated daily until the roots and soil have
made a good connection.
Easy way to have turf and ensure no weeds are getting
in.
Labor intensive, if sodding a big area (its best to
have a crew of workers if you are doing this).
